LIS 753 Exercise #1
Choosing a Web Hosting Package
There are many things to consider when choosing a web hosting package. For someone like myself who does not know very much about web design it can be daunting to choose a hosting package without knowing what to look for. Luckily there are numerous resources available on the web to assist in making the decision. For this class I have decided to use GoDaddy to host my exercises. There are several factors that played into this decision.
Reasons For Choosing GoDaddy
- I already host three Wordpress websites through GoDaddy. I have several different music projects that each have their own website and I have used Godaddy for five years now. It was the service my old band's webmaster used and it eventually got switched over to me when I started working on the sites. I'm used to working with Godaddy and there is still more than enough space available on my hosting account. It was not economical or practical to choose a hosting service in addition to the one I already have.
- In my experience their customer service has been excellent. They were extremely helpful in walking me through getting my Wordpress sites onto the web. I have never had to wait long to speak with a representative and I've never felt rushed or had any rude encounters.
- The pricing is very affordable. I have been able to run three completely different websites with different content on one hosting plan for very little cost in my opinion. They are also good about giving long time customers discounts or free credits on new domains.
- They are reliable. I have had very few issues of downtime on my sites. According to webhostingsearch.com Godaddy has an uptime of 99.982% since February 28, 2007.
- Quick-install apps- This tool came in very handy for hosting a Wordpress site. Through their quick install apps I was able to install Wordpress with some quick configuration and the click of a button.
Two things I don't like about GoDaddy.
- I do not find their control panel very user friendly.
- Their television commercials.
